In Medora, about to go to dinner, but we gained an hour!!!!  Mountain time!   Yay!   I feel much more relaxed and I am having a glass of wine and Chris had time for a cigar.  Lovely.

We started the day in Fargo.  A nice little town, really.  Mommy remembered her mom went to nursing school here at the hospita.  She left her two daughters with grnadma Roberts south of Medora and wnet off to Fargo after her husband died of peritonitis. Then after getting her nursing degree went to work in New England for Dr. Sarchet.  Obviously, they got married after awhile.

Driving across North Dakota, mommy loves to see the hay, the flat flat lands and the big sky.  She is clearly happy to be home.  We heard about the five sisters.  Lizzie, Kate, ? Anne (her mom) and Nell.  We stopped in Bismark for lunch.  She wanted to see the capital; she remembered that you could see it from far far away.  Here we are in front of it.  There is a tower on the right of about 10 stories.

She won't sit in the front seat.  I am not surprised as at the top of the hour I have to find the radio station that pulls in NPR for dad.  So here is the routine for getting in the back seat.

Voila! In the car.

We crossed North Dakota, straight from right to left, and marveled at the flat lands and the rolling hills until we turned a corner and entered the ND Badlands-- very dramatic.  Now we're in Medora, where Teddy Roosevelt had his ranch, and where Nana's Grandma Roberts lived next door.  Tomorrow we'll visit the TR National Park, as well as the Cowboy Hall of Fame where Grandma Roberts is honored for her grit-- we'll talk about that in the next episode.

Ok, look at the background of "black hills" (and the Congregational Church).  We have changed the itinerary a bit.  Tomorrow we drive to New England ND, where she was born, and on to overnight in Mobridge where she grew up after she was 8.  Onward!!

  1. What a day! It's great to catch up with you at the end of each day. I love the picture of the badlands.
